It was Peter’s first time in Nara and we had to make sure we visited the Great Buddha in the Todaiji temple which I did not the last time in my frugal attempt at saving money for the entrance as a student. I’m glad I have finally ticked that box now.
It was a fun day out in Nara and seeing deer everywhere. The baby even had to make sure he was able to protect his food that we kept under the stroller from being eaten by the deer!
We also visited other temples and shrines like Kasuga Taisha and Kofukuji Temple Five Story Pagoda and the Eastern Golden Hall.
Lunch was Japanese curry rice which was delicious!
After lunch we headed back to Kyoto. As this was my second trip to Kyoto, I wanted to make sure I did not miss out on Ryoanji as seeing how the stones are arranged in pictures always amazed me. Unfortunately I didn’t quite get it.
The grounds of the temple though was beautiful.
A visit to Kyoto probably isn’t complete without a visit to the Golden Temple Kinkakuji. So we took another bus to get there.
We decided to get some takeaway sushi for dinner and went to the food section of the department store of Takashimaya.
We of course had a look at the dessert section but did not actually buy any of the beautiful looking cakes below as they were about 8usd a slice.
We treated ourselves to a wonderful dessert at the famous Tsujiri tea house on Shijo Dori which my friends took me to back in 2008. The genmaicha ice cream was beyond superb and took the Japanese dessert experience to another level.
The girls that were queuing behind us were sat next to us and loved the baby from the start!
