Ngorongoro Crater -heaven for wild animals

Apparently only 4X4 can be used to go to the crater because the road out of it is very steep and non 4X4s would definitely have trouble getting out. There are only two roads in and out of the crater which was made following the path laid out by the elephants.

I had sausage and toast with sips of hot coffee by the very small fire for breakfast before heading for the Ngorongoro Crater. We saw the sunrise but more of rays shining down through the thick clouds – sort of like in the movies where someone would be brought up to heaven.

It was a pretty awesome morning. In total in the 48 hours since we left Arusha, we’ve seen more than 30 lions and the highlight for the day by far has got to be the 6 lions trying to kill the buffalo. All the 4X4s raced towards the scene once the buffalo was supposedly down but later Hamadi told us that it was a false alarm. The buffalo managed to get away.

Another amazing part of the day was the oasis in the crater.

It was beautiful and I loved the area where there were hundreds of zebras in another green area towards the rim of the crater.

I felt really happy for the zebras (and all the other animals) that they are able to live in such an amazing place.

Lunch was a good selection of about 4 or 5 vegetarian dishes including macaroni and there was a huge French toast which was delicious (does not taste like any other I’ve ever had) and there was a sweet pancake which wasn’t much to my liking. I found out that the journey to Dar es Salaam tomorrow is about 600km.

Dinner was BBQ which was really good proper food!

I’m not sure why I’m so amused by the pic of the zebra’s butts!
