Swiss Yodelling Festival

We decided to celebrate Eid this year (25/06/2017) by attending the final day of the 30th Swiss Yodelling Festival held in Brig. Up to 15,000 yodelers, flag throwers and alphorn blowers were admired by an enthusiastic crowd of 150,000 visitors.

Brig itself is located in canton Valais, surrounded by the Swiss Alps. The views of the mountains surrounding us was incredibly beautiful.

There seemed to be a party going on in the grounds of the castle.

I saw the women gathering under a tree wearing some interesting looking hats. Don’t they look like they just came out of a movie?

What made the day a lot of fun was encountering different yodeling groups yodeling away in every corner around town.

We had fun exploring the town on foot.

Little guy needed a short break every now and then.

As it was a very hot day, people seemed to do whatever it takes to cool down a little.

Of course there were traditional Swiss looking buildings like the one below.

There was a long queue for the mouth-watering Grillspiess.

We took a short lunch break where the kids had fun sitting under a tree.

Being able to be a part of something so Swiss in a majestic mountain setting with the sound of the alphorn that calls the summits its home was nothing less than magical.

There were photo booths set up around town and we took the chance to get family photo taken.

The parade started at 2pm and thankfully as I am rather small and short, I managed to find myself at the front of the line twice.

The parade had so much to offer: music, yodeling, cows, goats, sheep, horses, boxers, flag throwers, old vehicles, ice carving and more.

 

The highlight for me had to be seeing the cute black nosed sheep of Valais finally with my very own eyes.

What an enchanting day in the heart of the Alps.

It reminded me of the amazing experience I had flying over the Swiss Alps one beautiful late summer day.
