The Glacier Express is said to be one of the must-do panoramic train rides in Switzerland along with the Bernina Express.

Depending on the route you choose to do between St Moritz and Zermatt, you will climb up to 2033m at the Oberalppass.

There we were greeted with stunning views of the Alps.

We started our day from Basel to Switzerland’s oldest city Chur where we boarded the Glacier Express to Brig.

We decided to go for the 3 course lunch menu for a very respectable cost of only 43chf per person. The main course was divine.

The Glacier Express did a stop for about ten minutes somewhere and everyone had a good time getting some nice fresh air in the midst of all that snow.

The views were breathtaking.

A particularly memorable part of the trip was arriving into Andermatt where we had just spent a night at the month before.

We spent about 9 hours in the train in total that day.

How much does it cost?

Apart from the prices below, you must also pay an extra surcharge for the seat reservation fee.

Bear in mind that with the Swiss Pass or GA or day passes (Tageskarte), you won’t have to pay the prices above. All you need to pay is the surcharge/seat reservation fees.

Was it beautiful? Yes.
Will I ever do it again? No.
Would I recommend it? I’m not sure.

I preferred the Bernina Express much more.

Have you been on the Glacier or Bernina Express or any of the other panoramic train rides in Switzerland? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
