We had six nights to spend in Marrakech and one of the places we went to was the Majorelle Gardens. It also had Yves St Laurent’s memorial as he and another person bought the gardens in 1980 saving it from becoming victim to another hotel complex. It was such a beautiful, serene and green oasis in the middle of the city that I could significantly feel the air cool down upon entering.
The different cacti and the bamboo path were my favourites. It reminded me of the famous bamboo walk in Arashiyama, Kyoto.
We wanted to stop somewhere nice for coffee and went into the beautiful hotel called La Maison Arabe. We were sat by the pool and enjoyed the best coffee on this trip.
Near the famous square Jemaa el-Fnaa, there were many stalls selling just mint.
On another day we decided to check out the highly rated on TripAdvisor, non-profit organisation run restaurant called Amal in Gueliz where we had an amazing lunch.
There is not much to say about the souks in Marrakech. They get old after a while. The same goes with Jamaa el-Fnaa. It was however great to get my daily dosage of freshly squeezed orange juice for 40cents per glass.
We decided to do two day trips while we were there. One was to the seaside town Essaouira where we saw goats in trees along the way. The other was to the Berber village where we did a crazy hike to see a waterfall that wasn’t that impressive. Along the way we also stopped by at a women’s cooperative that made and sold Argan Oil.
