When I first saw pictures of Chefchaouen, the blue mountain village in Northern Morocco, I was adamant we had to go there. It was a very long drive of around 5 hours from Rabat. Leaving Rabat and getting stuck in the traffic of the capital city was quite a nightmare. Once we did, we were on the local roads all the way passing through more than 10 towns and villages before finally arriving Chefchaouen around 3pm.
We parked our car just outside the old town and was picked up by the receptionist from the hotel. We were the only guests there for the night. Chefchaouen is very small but the blue colours of the walls of the entire village was what gave it so much character.
We explored the little old town including a visit to the castle.
We had a great view of the city from one of the towers.
Dinner was incredible. I loved pastilla and I had the best chicken pastilla that night at Casa Aladdin. It was such a great portion and the 3-course meal cost 80 dirham or 8USD.
In the morning we were served breakfast at the rooftop terrace where we were greeted by another great view of Chefchaouen from the balcony.
Moroccan breakfast gets old after a while.
Lots of bread but the fresh orange juice is something I do miss.
After a night in Chefchaouen (which I reckon is enough to explore this little city), we drove south to Fes – a city unlike any other that I’ve visited.
