Flyboarding in St Kitts & Nevis

Flyboarding was a sport invented in autumn 2012. It was September 2013 when we went on our second cruise in the Caribbean. As flyboarding was a relatively new sport, it was then still only possible to be attempted in very few places. When we found out it was a possibility to try it out in St Kitts &  Nevis despite costing 300usd per hour per person, we knew we had to give it a try.

Peter went first and did an amazing job.

Not long after, he even attempted and succeeded doing a beautiful back flip!!!

Before long he was showing off and even did the dolphin dives in and out of the water. What can I say, my husband is a natural.

My turn came and I found out what a nightmare this sport was very quickly. It required so much strength trying to balance and I took a while to even be able to be slightly above water level.

Basically the slightest right or left move of the sole of your foot would make you fall right or left. The soles of your feet had to be perfectly/evenly flat in order to be able to “fly”. It required the same amount of strength no matter how high you are above the water. The only difference is by how much you would fall should your foot suddenly “slip”.

I fell so many times that the next day I woke up and found bruises all over my legs. It was the longest one hour of my life. I have huge respect for people that can make this sport look easy. Silly me even attempted to do a back flip but of course as I was not high enough, my body fell smack into the water and I shudder at the thought of the pain I experienced. At least at some point I was able to sustain being at a respectable height above the surface of the water.

Next stop: St Lucia – arguably the most beautiful island in the Caribbean.
