Things not to miss when in Prague

Prague was such a joy to revisit. I love being able to visit all the places I have been to and no longer traveling as a student/backpacker.

Here are some things I would recommend from our trip to Prague in April/May this year.

1- Cafe Savoy

For brunch and the most beautiful looking soft boiled eggs with parmesan, head here.

The interior decoration and architecture of this building is also one to admire.

2- Chimney / Trdelnik

Made from dough wrapped around a stick which is later grilled and topped with toppings and fillings of your choice, this is one dessert not to be missed. We stopped getting the ones with fillings (like vanilla or chocolate cream) as it was too messy with the kids.

3- Havelsky Market

The only preserved market place in Old Town dating back to 1232 had everything from food items to souvenirs.

4- Charles Bridge / Karluv Most

IMG_7445

This beautiful medieval bridge connects the west bank (castle area) and the old town. Wake up early and experience it before the crowd arrives.

We obviously didn’t.

5- Old Town Hall with Astronomical Clock

Established in 1338, the famous town hall is famous for its unique astronomical clock.

6- Angelato

If you fancy some good ice cream with strange flavours like parmesan with nuts and olive oil with basil, look no further!

7- Prague Castle

IMG_7558

The castle was founded in the 9th century and is one of the largest complexes in the world covering 45 hectares.

You also get wonderful panoramic views of the city from here.

8- Petrin Park

IMG_7610

What a wonderful green area this was which also housed the 378m Petrin Tower.

IMG_7593

It is another great place from which you can appreciate the views of Prague.

9- The Little Blue Duck / U Modre Kachnicky

IMG_7571

If you’re looking for solid Czech food, this is the place to go to.

10- Architecture

IMG_7405

Marvel at Prague’s beautiful architecture such as the arch at the foot of the Lesser Town Bridge Tower

and the Powder Tower next to the Municipal House.

11- Church of Our Lady before Tyn

IMG_7450

This gothic cathedral stands in the Old Town Square and houses the oldest piano in Prague as well as Gothic, Renaissance and early Baroque works.

This is also the spot where you can take a horse ride around the nearby Jewish Quarter.

12- Gingerbread Museum

This is a cute little place for a quick outing with the kids and for any gingerbread lover.

13- Random walks

You discover all sorts of things on random walks around this beautiful city.

How about giant baby sculptures?

14- World’s most beautiful library

is apparently in Prague. However, the lighting wasn’t great and we couldn’t actually enter it and had to pay extra to take pictures.
