My dearest high school friend Fara was coming to visit for a long weekend and having not seen her for almost 6 long years, I wanted to take her somewhere special. As I recently saw amazing pictures and views from Fronalpstock, I knew that was where we had to go.
We set off early one Sunday morning driving east passing Zurich and heading towards the mountains. The weather was incredibly foggy and visibility by the time we reached the car park where the cable car station was, was no more than 10 meters. Peter was convinced it would be beautiful up in the mountains once we passed the clouds. Not knowing much about mountains, I remained sceptical but hopeful.
The wait for the cable car was surreal. We couldn’t see anything and suddenly we’d hear the sound of it approaching and it would appear from the midst of the clouds.
The ride in the cable car was equal to bobbing in a container through a sea of clouds. Peter was right of course. As soon as we broke through, it was an entirely different world. The sun was shining beautifully and we could see the beautiful mountains. But we weren’t there yet. We had to take yet another chair lift to go all the way up. The views kept changing as we ascended higher up the mountain.
The pictures we managed to take that morning from the top of the mountain was very special. Unfortunately we weren’t able to see the Lake of Luzern but to see the cotton-candy-like clouds were equally rewarding.
We let the baby loose and he enjoyed crawling chasing his own shadow.
We saw a number of paragliders taking off and flying in the area. After grabbing a bite to eat, we headed back down where the weather was once again dark and gloomy. It really was two different worlds.
Thank you so much for visiting Fara! We can’t wait to have you here again!
