Cornwall is famous for its coastlines, beaches, clotted cream and pasties.
My house mates and I visited Cornwall over Easter in 2008. We took a train from Coventry to Penzance and rented a car for the next 4 days.
Here are some of the places we visited that I would highly recommend:
Minack Theatre
The Minack is a world famous open-air theatre built into the cliff side high above the Atlantic ocean.
First & Last House
Depending on whether you’re entering or leaving England, this would be the first or last house you would encounter. Historically opened to serve travelers at Land’s End, it is now a famous tourist spot where one can buy souvenirs and refreshments.
Eden Project
Fancy exploring the largest indoor rain forest in the world?
The Eden Project is dominated by two huge enclosures housing thousands of plant species in two biomes – one simulating a rain forest environment, and the other a Mediterranean one.
The sign reads: CAREFUL Timber Trucks Ahead (in our native Malay)
It was hot and humid in there – just like in Malaysia
This sign is WRONG. Lady’s fingers are okra, not banana!
Fifteen Cornwall
We were excited to get last minute seats for lunch at Jamie Oliver’s famous restaurant in Cornwall which overlooks the beach at Watergate Bay. The food was amazing!
St Michael’s Mount
Sharing the same tidal island characteristics and the same conical shape, St Michael’s Mount was historically a Cornish counterpart to the famous Mont Saint-Michel in Normandy, France.
St Michael’s Mount is also one of 43 (unbridged) tidal islands that one can walk to from mainland Britain.
I’m not sure why we posed with our finger that way
We took a boat to get to the island in the morning
and waited till the tide was low
so we could walk back to the mainland
Cornish pasties and clotted cream
No visit to Cornwall is complete without tucking into some Cornish pasties as well as scones with clotted cream.
We also visited St Ives (a famous seaside town) and Falmouth (home of the third deepest natural harbour in the world and the deepest natural port in Western Europe) when we were there.
I would love to visit Tintagel Castle the next time I’m in Cornwall.
