It was always my dream to see the tulips in Keukenhof with my very own eyes. I was glad we were able to make this trip when visiting our Dutch relatives in Leiden in May 2015.
Keukenhof Gardens
Also known as the Garden of Europe, Keukenhof is one of the world’s largest flower gardens covering an area of 32 hectares or 79 acres.
Featuring a variety of different gardens and garden styles, you can expect to be overwhelmed by the beauty and spectacle of colours you will see.
More than 7 million flower bulbs are planted in Keukenhof every year.
There are several cafes in Keukenhof should you need some refreshments. There is also a large indoor area where artists display and sell their artwork.
Tulips in Keukenhof
The tulips in Keukenhof attracted a record of 1.4 million visitors in 2017. Being able to view a total of 800 varieties of tulips certainly makes a trip to Keukenhof an unforgettable experience.
To catch this world famous attraction, be sure to plan your visit to Holland between mid-March and mid-May.
Keukenhof has a different theme each year, meaning a visit every year is never the same.
Did you know…
Getting there
We drove to Keukenhof from Leiden.
If coming from Amsterdam, the cheapest way is by buying the tickets directly from their website here and getting a Combi Ticket which includes train and/or bus tickets valid to and from Keukenhof.
Keukenhof with kids
Keukenhof is also a great place to visit with kids. There is a playground, maze, petting farm and treasure hunt on site!
It was easy for us to navigate around the gardens with a stroller.
We loved our time visiting the tulips in Keukenhof.
